Winfred Noble Roberts was born April 27, 1923 in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska to Walter Albert Roberts and Minnie Pearl Noble Roberts. In High School Windy was on the football team and worked at the Standard Oil Filling Station. Upon graduation from High School 1941 Windy left Nebraska and headed for San Diego, California and worked for Consolidated Aircraft, an aircraft factory where he worked on engines of planes and general maintenance. Windy was drafted in to the Army Air Corp in March of 1943 and left for basic training in Miami Beach, Florida where eventually he was trained for maintenance on the B24. He was part of the 453rd Bomber Group. flying with his crew on the "Star Eyes", he served as the flight engineer and manned the top bull turret gun position. windy completed 35 combat mission.
Along the way, he was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with four clusters. He then returned to the states in 1945 and was put in charge of the sheet metal shop in West Palm Beach, Florida. In May of 1945, Windy married Barbara Jeanne Clarke of Iowa Falls, Iowa in West Palm Beach Florida. Windy received an Honorable Discharge from the military in October of 1945. Originally wanting to be a mortician, he left the service and enrolled at the University of Nebraska in pre-dental. with a three year waiting list for dental school, he decided just to do a two year degree. Windy and Barb then moved in 1947 to Iowa Falls, Iowa where he worked with his Father-In-Law in his hardware store. Leaving Iowa Falls in 1953, they moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa and then to Sioux City Iowa where he worked for General Electric. Their next move was then to Weeping Water, Nebraska
where he had an Income Tax Service for a couple of years and then started working at the Nebraska State Bank with family. Weeping Water was home for 17 years until they moved to Loup City, Nebraska where he was Sr. Vice President of the Sherman County Bank . After many years "Bob" as he was now called, retired form Sherman County and when to work for Equitable Building and Loan in Grand Island, Nebraska. For many years Bob and Barb Spent part of their winters in Mercedes, Texas at La Floresta RV and Golf Park.
Both Bob and Barb were avid golfers with Bob starting his collection of "hole in one" trophies. In June 1991 Bob lost his wife, Barb of 46 years to a 3 year long illness. Picking up the pieces, he returned to LaFloresta in Texas where he resided almost all year long.
In 1993 he married Tommie Brixey and continued to enjoy all the friends, good weather and golfing that he loved. Bob moved back to Loup City, Nebraska in 2008 to be closer to his family. January of 2011 was his final change of address as he moved to the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home in Bellevue Nebraska where he resided until his passing on October 31, 2018. During the 7 1/12 years he lived there, he had many wonderful friends, excellent care and a nursing staff that was his 2nd family.
