Harry Harrison Hecht
October 14th, 1928 - March 2, 2020
Harry Harrison Hecht , 91 of Grandville MI , died March 2, 2020. He was Born October 14th, 1928 in Harlan County near Republican City Nebraska , His parents were Irvin C. and Susan (Harrison) Hecht. He attended Republican City Public School and graduated from High School in 1946. He was active in sports, 4-H and the United Methodist Church. Harry met Joan Berggren when both were students at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. They were married on September 1st, 1951 at the Monroe Evangelical Church in Hamilton County. They lived in Killeen, TX while Harry was stationed at Fort Hood. Harry had been drafted into the army and thought he was going to Korea however he was made part of the training cadre. He became Acting First Sergent with the rank of Sergent.
Upon his discharge he and Jo return to Nebraska in 1953 and lived in Thurston County where Harry was an Assistant County Extension Agent. Harry became a County extension Agent in Pawnee County later in 1953. They moved to York County in 1956 where Harry served as County Extension Agent into 1975. Harry earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Nebraska Lincoln while working in York County.
He became a District Director of North Dakota State University Extension Service in 1975.
They lived in Dickinson, North Dakota even following Harry retirement and continued living their until Joan's death in 2003. Harry moved to Wyoming MI in the fall of 2003 to be closer to Steve and his family.
He enjoyed family activities, reunions, camping, travel bird watching, hunting and fishing. Harry always enjoyed helping and teaching people throughout his career and retirement. Included were RSVP, NARFE, American Cancer Society, Eldercare, Stark Co.Council on Aging, Meal on Wheels,
Jochum Agriculture Museum and the United Methodist Church.
Through out his professional career Harry was honored with several awards.

Harry is survived by daughter Muriel Lynne Hecht; daughter-in-law Jodi Hecht: grandson Eric Hecht; Foster son Alan and his wife Paula Jones; granddaughters Sheilby Smith, Ashley Smith, Winter (James) Kirkendall, and grandson Treavor Jones; six great grandchildren.
Six brothers and sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joan; son Steven John Hecht; two infant daughters Gretchen Kay and Sarah Sue; a brother Max Charles Hecht, sister-in-law Shirley Stratton
and brothers-in-law Jack Stratton and Dr. Warren Berggren.

Funeral Service 11:00 Thursday March 5, 2020 at Grandville United Methodist Church 3140 Wilson Ave. SW Grandville, MI 49418 Visitation: One hour before the Service at the church
interment will be held with military honors at the Cemetery in Aurora, Nebraska
