Obituary for Frances Ellen Hart-Duckworth (Hart)

Print
Frances Ellen (Hart) Duckworth age 94 and 6 months of Plattsmouth formerly Papillion
Born Jan 7, 1923 to Rudolph and Nannie (Wiles) Hart on the family farm near Weeping Water. She died August 2, 2017 in Plattsmouth. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, Walter Duckworth; a brother Wendell M. Hart and a sister-in-law Norma (Welte) Hart.
As a farm girl, Frances learned to garden, how to take care of farm animals and cook. As a 4-H member, she learned sewing skills. In fact, she enjoyed sewing and crocheting so much that she made clothes for her nieces in later years and taught them to crochet.
She took piano lessons and learned to play the trombone in the school band. Frances was a pitcher on the softball team. She was an Omaha Royals and Yankee Fan. Frances attended Philpot country school grades K-8 then 9-12 in Weeping Water public graduating in 1940. Frances was a life-long member of the First Congregational Church.
Following high school Frances worked at the bomber plant near Offutt Air Force Base during WW II. She attended Peru State College and taught at Taylor School District 37 on Hwy 66 near Plattsmouth.
On September 28, 1946 Frances was united in marriage to Walter Duckworth. They lived in Omaha and later Papillion. Together they enjoyed gardening, growing beautiful African Violets, attending Royals and Huskers games and raising their various dogs and cats.
Frances enjoyed trying new recipes and liked candy a lot. She said she had a “sweet tooth” like her father! She had a caring and generous spirit. She liked to give little surprise gifts to her nieces. Even during her years in the assisted living, she liked to share candy, popcorn and 7-Up with those who had done a kindness or some chore for her.
Always a farmer at heart, she would ask about the crops or inquire about the amount of rain received! She would tell her family “only the Lord knows when we will be called home” But the last year or so, she was “ready to go”. On Wednesday, August 2nd she finally was called to her Lord. May you rest in peace Aunt Frances.
