Edgar Otto Mogensen was born on August 27, 1927 on a farm east of Weeping Water, Nebraska and passed away at Bryan Hospital in Lincoln Nebraska on December 9, 2018 at the age of 91. He resided all of his life in Weeping Water until the last 4 years when he was a resident of the Louisville Care Center.

Edgar was the son of Otto and Christiane (Christiansen) Mogensen. He was raised on the family farm and attended 1st through 8th grade at the Center Valley Country School and graduated in 1945 from Weeping Water High School. He was drafted into the United Stated Army and served from 1946 – 1947. He met the love of his life in August of 1948. He and Margaret Sarah Pedersen were married on June 11, 1949. To this union three children were born.

Ed was mechanically inclined at a young age. He was always tinkering with automobiles while helping on the farm and attending school. In the Army his knowledge of mechanics earned him the rank of Technical Sergeant of a Motor Pool. In returning home from the service he was employed by Hebard International Harvester Company, Young & Stacey International Harvester Company, and the Louis Noble Motor Company all in Weeping Water. In 1956, he and his brother Laurence formed and operated the Mogensen Bros. Garage. His nephew, Matthew joined the business later becoming the Mogensen Garage which celebrated 50 years in business. From 1992-1997 Ed worked part-time in the maintenance department of the Louisville Care Center.

Family was his life. He was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather. All of his life he felt a strong bond to his twin sister who died at the age of 6 from pneumonia. Ed was a lover of animals, an avid bowler, and enjoyed the years he and his wife camped. He was very proud of his Danish heritage and was a member of the Danish Brotherhood Lodge #125. Dane was the primary language spoken in his household until he started to school. He was able to travel to Denmark and visit the places of his family’s heritage.

He is survived by daughters Marcia Nickels and Doris Hohman and husband Jim, all of Weeping Water; Dale Mogensen of Omaha; Grandchildren; Marcy (Scott) Wagner , Jeannie (Raymond) Chastain, Robert Nickels, Brenda Gilfert, Bruce (Erin) Hohman, Michael (Tina) Mogensen and Kyle (Tabitha) Mogensen; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; brother-in-law Francis Pedersen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret, brother Laurence, sisters Esther and Sylvia, twin sister Evelyn.
The family suggests memorials to the Louisville Care Center or the Weeping Water Senior Center.
